Description

During spring 2018, our team of DrPH students are taking the Health Organizations Strategic and Contingency Planning course. We have been tasked to create a strategic plan for a new local nonprofit startup, Space to Thrive. The goal of our service-learning activity is to write a strategic plan that will advance the vision of local breast cancer survivor Jill Johns and her passion to provide stress-free, educational retreats for long-term breast cancer survivors. The strategic plan will be presented in April of 2018.

By participating in this service-learning activity, we have not only learned how to write various components of a strategic plan; we have gained the understanding of why a strategic plan is an important component of a successful organization. This type of hands-on learning is not always compatible with the classroom, and we are grateful for the experience to have a positive impact on breast cancer survivors.
