Abstract

I am arguing that the claims on the Mesha Stele give credence to accounts told in the Hebrew Bible, specifically the 2nd Book of Kings in the 3rd Chapter, where the Kings of Edom, Judah, and Israel band together in order to create an alliance or coalition against Moab. Also, I aim to prove that the way in which the Mesha Stele was unveiled was as a public commemoration and sort of ‘offering’ from King Mesha to Moabs God, Chemosh, which shows that the Mesha Stele represents a method that political rulers use to unite and galvanized their populations to support their leaders and show that they are pious.
