Abstract
This project will compile data on the development of Skidaway since the foundation of the colony of Georgia. It will look at the influential characters that impacted the island and its growth. It will look to answer the question of how the modern state of the Island came to be. How did it avoid becoming a tourist attraction and how did it become so developed in such a short amount of time? How did it attract universities, golf clubs, and the State government to preserve this Island yet allow a thriving community to exist? How has this affected the local environment, especially the salt marshes that have increased in size since the start of major development. The data will come from interviews from the major players, research from articles and books on the subject, and geographical maps of the region to observe its change. It will be conveyed through interactive maps that will allow easy comparison to the past and present. All of this will be presented through a research poster with the history and research shown in detail.
