“The Joy of Reading” was created in 2002 for the Arkansas Reading Association. The girl in the center of the picture with the red blouse and red hair berets is artist George E. Miller’s own daughter, Joi A. Miller. Joi was 4 years old in 2002 when this work of art was created and had already been reading for almost a year! Have your young students find and write down the 5 words hidden in this picture. (Read, Dream, Learn, Hope and Grow) Ask your students what they think is meant by the subtitle “Good Books Like Good Friends, Bring You Much Joy”
