First Impressions Count: Instructional Strategies for the First Day of Class

Abstract

This session will address research undertaken to discover what instructors' behaviors leave a positive and negative impact on students on the first day of class. The implications of those impressions for the rest of the semester will also be explored. During this session, audience members will be asked to use the research presented as a launching pad to generate strategies for successfully approaching the first day. By the end of the session, those in attendance should feel better prepared to tackle that elusive first day of class.
