The Future of Nursing Education in the Web 2.0 Environment

Abstract

The emergence of Web 2.0 tools has opened the doors for virtual collaboration and networking in teaching and learning. The presentation will present preliminary results from research on Web 2.0 tools in nursing education. Participants will engage in the use of Web 2.0 tools and discuss their use in the educational setting. The research questions guiding this study are (1) what are the current uses of Web 2.0 tools by nursing students and nursing faculty? (2) What is the value of Web 2.0 tools to the scholarship of teaching and learning? Upon completion of this session the participants will be able to: Compare and contrast common web 2.0 tools used for personal use and nursing education; Describe the current utilization of web 2.0 tools in nursing education; Discuss the challenges and opportunities in the use of web 2.0 tools in teaching/learning; Discuss the added value of using web 2.0 tools in teaching/learning; Actively participate in a demonstration of web 2.0 tools.
