Nancy Chick is an assistant director at the Center for Teaching and an affiliated faculty member in the English Department at Vanderbilt University. Her research interests include all things SoTL and signature pedagogies. She co-founded and edits Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL).


This essay synthesizes ongoing conversations as it explores the third and arguably most complicated of Peter Felten’s “Principles of Good Practice in SoTL,” “methodologically sound.”
