Brief Biography

Sharon Darley is a special needs preschool teacher in the public school system. She has 25 years of experience, primarily working with children on the autism spectrum. In addition to teaching, she has instructed social skills classes, worked with families in their homes, job coached for adults, worked with other professionals to start a summer camp, and modeled teaching skills for teachers and administrators from around the state.

Presentation Abstract

Often times children with ASD lack the understanding of why a behavior is expected or how they should behave in certain situations. This session will help service providers to begin thinking like a person with ASD to reveal the reason for the behavior. This insight can assist service providers in creating unconventional solutions to increase understanding in the individual with ASD in order to make more informed decisions regarding his/her behavior.
